The ISGAN Award of Excellence 2014

12.05.2014 - Four applicants from the S3C Family of Projects among the finalists.

In May 2014, the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) announced the ISGAN Award of Excellence for the first time in order to acknowledge smart grid projects with an emphasis on consumer engagement and empowerment from around the world. The event took place in Seoul and was launched by the ISGAN in partnership with the Global Smart Grid Federation (GSGF).

During a special ceremony at the Fifth Clean Energy Ministerial in Seoul, the Award of Excellence awarded projects that showcase leadership and innovation in the field of smart grids. Among the finalists, four applicants from the S3C Family of Projects were named:

•    PowerMatching City, DNV GL (The Netherlands),
•    Inovgrid, EDP Distribuicao Energia S.A. (Portugal),
•    LINEAR – Local Intelligent Networks for Energy Active Regions, VITO NV (Belgium).

The project "EcoGrid: Consumer Engagement in the Future Power System, Ostkraft Holding A/S (Denmark)” was even honored with the title: "Honorable Mention”.

By recognizing smart grid projects from around the world, the event contributes to a better global understanding of the value that smarter, cleaner electrical grids can offer. At the same time, the award aims at a higher replicability of smart grid concepts in the future.

The winning projects were selected based on five criteria: potential impact, consumer benefit, potential for replication, level of innovation, and alignment with ISGAN`s mission to advance key aspects of smart grids. The award committee was composed of an independent, international jury of smart grid experts and led by Dr. Ronnie Belmans, Executive Director of the Global Smart Grid Federation.
